You do not need a referral to access therapy. Some clients prefer to pay privately or use their private health insurance to partially fund their therapy. A referral from your General Practitioner (GP) is required to access Medicare rebates for sessions.
Medicare rebates are provided under a Mental Health Treatment Plan which is completed by your GP. This plan provides access to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per person, per calendar year. Your referring GP will schedule a return visit to review your progress after the first six sessions and can provide a re-referral for an extra four sessions.
As of 01/07/2023, Medicare provides a rebate of $93.35 per standard consultation with a Registered Psychologist. Medicare rebates will be processed on your behalf on the day of your consultation if you have a valid referral.
Private Health Funds may offer a rebate for psychological therapy. Clients are encouraged to check their coverage with their nominated health fund.
All psychology services are exempt from GST. Payments are made on the day via direct bank transfer or Eftpos. Face to Face, Telehealth and Walking sessions are charged at the same rate.
